Zanthoxylum simulans Hance is the plant of Rutaceae Xanthoxylum. It's one of most common Chinese herbal medicines, whoes fruit, leaf and root can be used as medicine. The nature of pericarp is pungent, warm, and it can warm middle energizer to relieve pain, drive worm, invigorate stomach, cure pathogenic damp, itch of skin, dental necrosis pain. The seed is bitter, pungent, cool, and it can induce diuresis to reduce edema. The root is pungent, a little warm, and it can cure the symptom of injurying from fall, chest and abdomen pain, snake bite and stomach and enteralgia pain.The volatile oil of pericarp and seed of Zanthoxylum simulans Hance was extracted by means of water steam distillation and extraction .with ether respectively, and the chemical constituents were analyzed by GC-MS. One hundred and eight compounds of the volatile oil of the pericarps and forty six compounds of the seeds have been identified separately. The main constituents are 1, 8 -cineole (17.91 %), limonene (12.66 %), beta.-elemene (9.81 %), (-)-alpha.-terpineol (7.61 %), beta.-selinene (4.81%), alpha.-selinene(3.79 %) in the pericarps oil, and 9-hexadecenoic acid (35.89 %), hexadecanoic acid (17.70 %), oleic acid (11.68 %), linoleic acid (4.72 %) and 9, 12, 15-octadecatrienoic acid, methyl ester (4.72 %) in the seeds oil.Vitro antimicrobial experiment indicated that: the essential oil was very susceptive to Staphylococcus aureus, and susceptive to Escherichia coli and Bacillius subtilis.6 compounds were isolated from the fruit of Zanthoxylum simulans Hance by silica gel column chromatography. 2 of them were identified by NMR. They were trielaidin and arbutin. Both were isolated from this plant for the first time.11 compounds were isolated from the root of Zanthoxylum simulans Hance by silica gel column chromatography and prep-TLC. 7 of them were identified by NMR. They were glyceryl trilinoleate,β-eudesmol,β-sitosterol,β-amyrin, des-N-methyc-helerythrine, heptacosane and nodakenetin. Glyceryl trilinoleate, nodakenetin were isolated from the plant first time.
