Lianqiaozi is the seed of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl. The fruit of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl. is a common Chinese traditional medicine.The fruit is bitter and cold.It has the function of clearing away heat and toxic materials,reducing a swelling.The seeds of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl. often fall off and are abandoned. But it was reported that the seed has the function of antibiosis and its compounds were unknown.In this paper,seven compounds are isolated from the seed of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl. by solvent extraction,silica gel column,Sephadex LH-20 column and recrystalizition,their stuctures were identified by the physical and chemical characteristics and spectral method,which were 1)β-Amyrin acetate;2) 20(S)-Dammar-24-ene-3β,20-diol-3-acetate;3) 18-nor-5α,20ε-cholanic acid, 3β-20-dihydroxy-4,4,8,14-tetramethyl-γ-lactone, acetate ; 4)20s ,24s-epoxydammarane-25-ol-3α-yl acetate;5) betulinic acid;6) 3,4-dihydroxyhenzoic acid;7) Octahydro-1H,5H-dipyrrolo[1,2-a:1',2'-d]pyrazine. Among them, the compound 7 is a new natural coumpound.The content of Phillyrin in the seed of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl. were determined by HPLC. The content of Phillyrin is 0.004%.The best extraction conditions of the volatile oils in the seed of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl were determined by the orthogonal test with the volumn of extracted oils as index. GC-MS was used to compare the difference in the composition of volatile oil between the carpodermis and seed, and there were a little differences between them.In addition, the volatile oils were tested and showed obvious antibiosis activity.
