The quality control of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)is one of the key scientific subjects in TCM modernization.High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC),which has become one of the most commonly used analytical technologies in natural products, offers the advantages of excellent separation efficiency, high resolution and rapid analysis.Taking the 'QINLIAN' preparations as the analytical samples,we developed a series of analytical methods for the simultaneous determination of several key components within three different 'QINLIAN' preparations using HPLC techniques. The main content of this paper is described as below:1.An HPLC-DAD method for the simultaneous quantification of eight active components(berberine,baicalin,baicalein,wogonin,aloe-emodin,rhein,emodin, chrysophanol)in 'YIQING' capsule(composed of Rhizoma Coptidis,Radix et Rhizoma Rhei and Radix Scutellariae)was eatablished.Excellent linear behaviors over the investigated concentration ranges were observed with the values of R~2 higher than 0.99 for all the analytes. The validated method was successfully applied to the simultaneously determination of these active components in 'YIQING' capsules from different production batches.2.A simple and effective HPLC method was developed and validated for the quantification of five important components(puerarin, berberine, baicalin, baicalein and wogonin)in the commercial products of 'Ge-Gen-Qin-Lian' tablet(composed of Radix Puerariae,Rhizoma Coptidis,Radix Scutellariae and Radix Glycyrrhizae). This method was applied to the determination of different manufacturers and the same factory between different batches. The results showed that the contents of the active components were quite different from each other, and the difference within the products from different manufacturers was much more significant than that in the products from the same manufacture. This method is hopeful to improve the quality control of this botanical drug.3.An approach for determination of paeoniflorin, berberine, baicalin, baicalein, wogonin and glycyrrhizin in 'QINLIAN' tablet(composed of Rhizoma Coptidis, Radix Scutellariae,Forsythia suspense,Radix paeoniae rubra and Radix Glycyrrhizae)by HPLC was also established. The column temperature set at 50℃was helpful to separate berberine and other alkaloids, resulting in an effective separation. The results of method validation demonstrated that this method was reliable and accurate.
