Clinical Observation Of The Auricular Plaster Therapy In Preventing Post-stroke Constipation

Objective: Stroke is a common illness and frequently encountered disease in middle age and the old. Its incidence, disability, mortality and recuremce rate are high. Since it does harm to our health and brings burdens to our families and society, we should treat it actively when it occurrs. As the earlier discovery and treatment of post-stroke complications are related to the recovery and survival rate closely, it is regarded as an important role of treating stroke. Post-stroke constipation, which is mainly caused by the low viability after stroke, is one of the common complications. Its incidence is 75.6%. As there are few reports about prevention of post-stroke constipation, this study aims at investigating a simple and effective therapy to prenvent costipation in order to avoid the adverse effect. It also provides the theoretical base for auricular plaster therapy in preventing post-stroke constipation.Methods: Literature review on constipation study in recent 20 years by Chinese medicine and modern medicine was finished.In the clinical study, 70 patients in acute stroke was randomly divided into 2 groups, auricular plaster group and control group, according to diagnosis standard, inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Auricular plaster group was treated with auricular plaster therapy twice in 4 days. Auricular points: costipation point, large intestine, sanjiao, lung, liver, spleen, stomach and subcortex. We made the auricular plaster group contrast with control group in incidence of conpitation, self-living ability and defecating matters. Results: The results of literature review show that research of post-stroke constipation is mainly in treatment at precent. The preventions in modern medicine, including daily nursing, defecating practice and diet direction, are limited. While the preventions in Chinese medicine are rare. Treating constipation by auricular plaster therapy is accepted by most of doctors and patients. So auricular plaster therapy can be regarded as a new way to prevent post-stroke conspitation.Clinical study shows that the quatity of constipation in auricular plaster group is less than control group after treatment (P<0. 05) . At the area of self-living ability, auricular plater therapy is better than control group after treatment(P<0. 05) .On the other hand, symptoms of phlegm-heat accumulation in auricular plater therapy group are much improved than control group ( P<0.01).Besides, it can be concluded that patients in acute stroke, who are at the old age, or are treated with dehydrating agent, or cannot walk, are easier to catch constipation.Conclusion: The effect in preventing post-stroke constipation by auricular plaster therapy is significant. It can be operated easily without side effect.
