The Investigation On Related Issues Of HIV/AIDS Among Men Who Have Sex With Men In Kunming City

Objective To understand the status of knowledge, attitude,behaviour and risk factors,the infection of STD/AIDS and demand for health services among Men Who Have Sex with Men covered by Rainbow Sky,then established HIV/AIDS intervention pilot and monitoring sentinel in MSM group, and promoted to set up supporting environment and project for MSM community,in order to provide the bases for HIV/AIDS prevention.Methods With the affecting factors of behavior,our team-worker cooperated with organization called the Rainbow Sky that services for the Gay community, and took the MSM who covered by Yunnan Provincial CDC,Kunming CDC and Yunnan Health Education as research target groups.The target groups included the MSM members from internet and the MSM group from Bars, parks and squares driven by members of peer education. And took "snowball method" which is one of non-probability sampling methods as the sampling method, then carried out anonymous survey on 136 MSM. At the same time, took personal-depth interviews as a supplement of the quantitative survey, to describe AIDS knowledge, attitudes, the impact factors of behaviour and demand for health services of MSM community.Results 1 .HIV/AIDS and syphilis prevalence rate were a litte higher, and the rate of HIV was13.2% and the rate of syphilis was 5.1% in the study.2.As a whole, the basic knowledge rate of AIDS awareness was high in MSM group, but there were some misunderstandings in the community. The complete correct rate of awareness of HIV/AIDS preventive knowledge was 68.6% in the group of non-infected people, and The complete correct rate of awareness of HIV/AIDS preventive knowledge was 44.4% in the group of infected people. There was significant difference between two groups about the knowledge, and The complete correct rate of awareness of HIV/AIDS preventive knowledge of non-infected people was higher than infected group.3.only 36.8% of target groups persistently used condom during their anal sex in the recent six month.During the latest anal intercourse with male partners, the percentage for using condom was 61.9%.and 79.4% had male partners in the past half year, with a medium number of 2.and 15.4% had female partners in the past half year and there was no correlation between condom use and education level, marital status, identity, AIDS-related knowledge, accessed to condoms.4.The majority MSM of the study had good self-identification, but it was very low rate for them to seek VCT services. 89.7% of them knew his identity which was gay or bisexual and heterosexual,and only 21.3% said that they once sought VCT services in the past year.Conclusion This study showed that there is an existence of a community called MSM in Kunming city. They formed mainly younger, higher education people.They had high levels of knowledge about HIV transmission and prevention,but they continued to engage in frequently high-risk behaviors with little concern that they might be at risk for HIV infection.And there was development trend for younger age. There was potential risk of STD/AIDS epidemic in MSM which might spread to general population in Kunming, and effective intervention measures and monitoring should be strengthened in MSM.
