Objective:Understand the characteristics of demography and migration and the fundamental state about AIDS-related knowledge, attitude and behavior among male floating population in two frontier towns in Yunnan Province.Explore and discuss the effective strategy and measures to prevent and cure HIV.Provide the foundational data for monitoring AIDS and provide the valuable information for evaluating the measures preventing and curing HIV/AIDS.Methods:The place of investigation was decided and a questionnaire was consummated by using some qualitative methods such as interview method, observation method and the method of referring literature and documents. Non-random sampling was used to sample from the male floating population in two frontier towns in Yunnan Province. The questionnaire developed by ourselves was used to investigate the targeting population by using epidemiological cross-sectional study method.Results:(1)In two frontier town, male floating population primarily is Han people and married young people. The level of middle school and the level of elementary school are primary among the male floating population in two frontier towns. Most of them get their incomes without fixed date.In the factor of the month income,we can fmd statistical difference between the two frontier towns(P<0.05).The average month income of A town is 2500 yuan and that of B town is 1500 yuan. The category of occupation of the male floating populations between two frontier towns is different. In A town, primary occupations respectively are the truck driver(25.5%), the logger(13.1%)and floating businessman(10.3%)among male floating population. In B town, primary occupations respectively are the architecture worker or building road worker(27.2%),the individual operator(27.2%)among male floating population. In addition, there are comparatively many persons who changed their occupation after they arrived at the two frontier towns.(2)In the factor of the style of floating, floating with misters is the most in A town(percentage is 36.9%) and floating by oneself is the most in B town(percentage is 43.9%).In the factor of the style of living, the percentage of living with misters(29.6%)and that of living with wives(24.2%)and that of living with colleagues(22.9%)are similar in A town (percentage is 36.9%)and the percentage of living with wives(43.9%)is the most in B town.(3)In A town, the factors which influence the level of knowing AIDS-related knowledge include the level of education, month income, whether living alone. In B town, the factors which influence the level of knowing AIDS-related knowledge include the level of education, age, month income, whether living alone and whether living with wives.(4)The HIV/AIDS-related knowledge grasped by interviewees is not comprehensive. The rate of knowing some knowledge about the non-route of transmission is very low.For example, for the question that is whether the biting of mosquito can spread HIV,32.9%of interviewees in A town and 25.7%of interviewees in B town can exactly answer this question. For the question that is whether infecting HIV is possible when you shake hands with the patients with AIDS,56.0%of interviewees in A town and 57.3%of interviewees in B town can exactly answer this question. For the question that is whether the infants will be infected by the lactation from his or her mother who is the patient with AIDS,29.4% of interviewees in A town and 55.1%of interviewees in B town can exactly answer this question. For the question that is whether insisting to exactly using condom can prevent AIDS,59.6%of interviewees in A town and 42.4%of interviewees in B town can exactly answer this question.(5)In A town,8.3%of interviewees had had sexual behavior with prostitute and 4.4%of interviewee had two sexual partners at least in the recent one year.In B town,5.4%of interviewees had had sexual behavior with prostitute and 2.2%of interviewee had two sexual partners at least in the recent one year.We did not find the statistical difference between the two towns on the incidence rate of going whoring as well as the incidence rate of having two sexual partners at least.(6)In A town,22.6%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with prostitute.41.1%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with extramarital lovers.74.7%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with their wives or girlfriends. In B town,30%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with prostitute.46.2%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with extramarital lovers or underground lovers.66.9%of interviewees said they had never used the condom when had had sex with their wives or girlfriends.(7)There are four factors which influence the happening of going whoring in A town as well as in B town.In A town, the factors included whether living with parents, the own assessment about the risk of infecting HIV,the attitude to extramarital sex and whether to be a married man without living individually. In B town, the factors included the average month income, the own assessment about the risk of infecting HIV,the attitude to extramarital sex and whether to be a married man without living individually. In these factors, whether living with parents or not is a protective factor, the others are risk factors. Conclusion The male floating population in frontier town in Yunnan province has many characteristic which are as follows. The level of education of them is low,the income of them is not high, the category of occupation of them is complicated and the knowledge about how to prevent and cure HIV is not comprehensive. There are some persons among male floating population in frontier town had AIDS-related high risk sexual behaviors. In addition, there are some objective bad factors which influence the happening of high risk sexual behaviors in frontier town. Therefore, this population has bigger risk of being infected with HIV than general population. We suggest that not only the work of monitoring AIDS among the floating population in frontier town should be done well but also we should adopt the style of work which takes the community as key point and carries out the cooperation among many branches and actively utilize some own advantageous factors from the floating population to enforce the work of propaganda and education and intervention for this population.
