Objective to detect Ultrasonographic morphologic features and hemodynamics of breast tumours,to determine the relationship between color pixel density of breast masses in enhanced-flow and contrast-enhanced Sonograph and in pathology. Methods Harmonic Ultrasound contrast and Ultrasound e-flow technique were performed to investigate and detect the changes of 86 patiens with breast masses(46 benign,4Omalignant). Microvessel density was measured in surgical specimens after immunohistochemical staining using anti-factor CD34.Results On high-frequency ultrasonography imaging and color Doppler flow imaging, theshape, border, internalecho, attenuation, calcification, and hemodynamics were different between benign and malignant breast tumour. The value of RI,PI,Vsp and Vep were significantly higher in the malignant lesions than those in the benign ones(P<0.001).Both microvessel density detected by the e-flow technique and Harmonic Ultrasound contrast and pathology microvessel density had the same gradient, malignant group>benign group>control group(18 parenchyma distal to breast masses).Axillary node-positive tumors demonstrated significantly higher color pixel density and area density of microvessel than did axillary node negative tumors(p<0.05). These studies showed a good correlation between color pixel density by Ultrasound e-flow techniqe and Harmonic Ultrasound contrast imaging and area density of microvessel by histologic examination(r=0.732,p<0.001;r=0.740,p<0.001)).Conclusion two dimensional ultrasound integrating with hemodynamics and enhanced-flow and Harmonic Ultrasound contrast were applied to differently diagnose the breast masses.Harmonic Ultrasound contrast can clearly display the microvascular perfusion of tumors, and may help to discrim inate benign from malignant breast lesions.
