Objective:To study the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-lα(HIF -1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VECF) in the retinoblastoma and the correlation with the tumor invasion metastasis and to analyze their relationship with clinicopathology characters in order to determine their effect on angiogenesis. Methods:Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the protein expression of HIF-1α,VEGF in retinoblastoma. The relationship between expression and tumor stage was analyzed. Results:The HIF-1αand VEGF were highly expressed in retinoblastoma , and HIF-1α,VEGF mainly expressed in tumor cells. HIF-1αand VEGF was positively correlated with tumor stage(P<0.05). The expression HIF-1αwas positively accociated with VEGF level(r=0.946, P<0.001). Conclusion: HIF-1αand VEGF were over-expressed in retinoblastoma cells, and its expression were related to clinical staging invasion and metastasis. expression was one of the predictors for the biological behavior of retinoblast -oma.HIF-1αexepression was also possitivelye related to VEGF level. HIF-1αandVEGF may play an important role in angiogenesis and tumor progression in retinoblastoma. There expression can become referential indexes to predice the malignant behavior of retinoblastoma.
