Objective:To investigate the expression of Cancer-Testis Antigen MAGE-A1 in human retinoblastoma, and explore the potential possibility in the immunodiagnosis and immunotherapy of retinoblastoma with MAGE-A1.Methods:With immunohistochemistry, the MAGE-A1 was examined in the tumor tissues of 30 retinoblastoma cases and normal retina tissues of 25 normal retina tissue cases. The correlation between the expression of MAGE-A1 and clinical.data was analyzed by statistical method.Result:The expressive frequency of MAGE-A1 was 20%(6/30)in retinoblastoma. There was no MAGE-A1 detected in normal retina tissue cases. Significant relationship was found between them(P<0.05).No significant relationship was found between the expression of MAGE-A1 and clinical data, such as gender, nation and the size of the tumor(P>0.05),but it was related with the age(P<0.05),children younger than 2 years old were more lined to express. Besides,it was related with the clinical stage(P<0.01).No significant relationship was found between the expression of MAGE-A1 and optic nerve infiltration(P>0.05).No significant relationship was found between the expression of MAGE-A1 and histological typing(P>0.05). Conclusion:MAGE-A1 was expressed in retinoblastoma, suggesting that MAGE-A1 might be a target antigen specific for immunodiagnosis and immunotherapy of retinoblastoma cases.
