Objective To study the expression of eIF4E,C-erbB-2 and FHIT in the pathological scar and their probable role in the pathogenesis of abnormal scars. Methods Immunohistochemistry integrated image analysis and reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction(Rr-PCR)were performed to detect the expression and distribution of eIF4E in hypertrophic scar, keloid, mature scar and normal skin.Immunohistochemistry integrated image analysis was used to detect the expression and distribution of C-erbB -2 and FHIT in the above tissue.Statistics was used to analyze the datas. Results The expression of eIF4E protein and eIF4E mRNA increased in abnormal scar(P<0.005)and their expression was not statistically defferent between the hypertrophic scar and keloid(P>0.05).The level of C-erbB-2 protein expression was not statistically defferent between the hypertrophic scar andkeloid(P>0.05),while they wereall remarkably significant in comparison between normal control group and abnormal scar(P<0.005).There was positive correlation existing between eIF4E protein andC-erbB-2 protein expression(P<0.01).rhe expression of FHIT protein between pathological scar group and normal control group has no difference(P>0.05).Conclusion The result indicated that the expression of eIF4E and C-erbB-2 was increased in abnormal scar.eIF4E and C-erbB-2 over-expression may play an important role in the pathogenesis of pathological scar. The expression of eIF4E positively related to the expression of C-erbB-2.The loss and depression of FHIT protein expression was not observed in abnormal scar, indicating FHIT does not contribute to the excessive scaring.
