Analysis Of The Causes Of Hospital Death In Diabetic Cases

Objective To evaluate the causes of death of the diabetic inpatients in our hospital,and provide reference for tertiary prevention of diabetes,to take countermeasure to reduce the mortality rate.Meathods The number of diabetic patients in the 1st affiliated hospital of Fujian medical university from 2002 to 2006 is 2321.The clinical records of death diabetics were retrospective reviewed. Statistics was deal with by the SPSS software.Results In our study, cardiovascular and cerebral vascular disease was the most common cause of death and 16 deaths were attributable to it,12 to neoplasms,10 to infections and 7 to acute complications.45.5% (25/55) patients died within the first 5 years after diagnosis,and the primary death cause is also cardiovascular and cerebral vascular diseases(36%).47.3%(26/55) patients are above 70 years old,and the main causes of death were cardiovascular and cerebral vascular diseases, infection and neoplasms.Conclusions The study comfirms cardiovascular and cerebral vascular disease ,neoplasms , infection as the major causes of death in diabetics.Prevention and control of the chronic complications and discovering the neoplasms timely were helped to reduce the mortality rate of diabetics.
