The dried Caulis of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb has been used in traditional medicine for the prevention and treatment of insomnia,hemopenia, rheumatalgia and dermatosis.A few studies on chemical constituents of this widely used Caulis Polygoni multiflori in China have been done.In this chemical study on Caulis Polygoni multiflori,twelve compounds have been isolated.On the basis of chemical reactions,spectral evidences and also by comparison with some authentic samples and their standard spectras, nine of them are proposed as follows:Emodinmono methyl ether (Ⅰ),Emodin (Ⅱ),β-Sitosterol (Ⅲ),p-hydroxybenzalDehyde (Ⅳ),Questin (Ⅴ), Citreorosein (Ⅵ),Physcion-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (Ⅶ),Emodin-8-O-β-D-glucopyrano side (Ⅷ),2,3,5,4′-tetrahydroxysilbene-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(Ⅸ).Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ,Ⅶ,Ⅸare firstly isolated from Caulis Polygoni multiflori.Meanwhile,this study has formulated the preliminary HPLC fingerprint of Caulis Polygoni multiflori by comparing the difference and commonness of Caulis Polygoni multiflori which are planted in six different districts.
