ObjectiveTo study Ginsenoside Rgl,the effects of it on morphology of hippocampal neurons of SD rats with hippocampal electrical injuries and its protective function of ability of learning and memory of rats.MethodAdult female SD rats were chosen.Models of rats with hippocampal electrical injuries were established,by locating hippocampus under the guidance of stereotactic apparatus and electrodes were used to conduct direct electrical current to hippocampus in order to cause electrical damage.Rats in the treatment group were given 50mg/kg.d of Ginsenoside Rgl intragastrically, while the sham surgery group and the control group were both given normal saline intragastrically everyday. After 14 days of administration,by the Morris water maze, function of Ginsenoside Rgl in protecting the learning and memory ability of rats with hippocampal electrical damage was tested and observed. The neurons were fixed and paraffin-sectioned and being stained by H-E staining approach and Nissl staining approach.Viability of the neurons, their pattern of arrangement, and no.of Nissl bodies were observed.ResultsGinsenoside Rgl was able to markedly improve the learning and memory ability of rats with hippocampal electrical injuries. It was also capable of increasing viability of electrical damaged hippocampal neurons,as well as preserving the structural integrity of the neuronal cells.ConclusionsGinsenoside Rgl is able to improve the learning and memory ability of rats with hippocampal electrical injuries. It is also capable of protecting neuronal cells with electrical injury.
