Nausea and vomiting frequently occur after Chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In addition, motion sickness, surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia and the use of many kinds of medcine cause emesis. It can not only worried and dispressed ,but also malnutrition, lack of vitamine and disorder of water and electrolyte, even cause the alimentary canal bleeding and life in danger. Now many kinds of antiemetic medicines are used in clinic, but most of them are produced by chemical synthesis and have definite toxicities and side-effects. Some novel kinds of medicines such as ondansetron, have better curative effects, but the price is too expensive. All of above limit the use of antiemetic medicines. So it is very important to find a kind of natual antiemetic medicines, not only economical ,but also has higher effects and lower to-xicities.Base on the Chinese traditional medicines,we investigated the antiemetic effects of extract of Capsicum (EC) through successfully building the traditional rat pica model and the novel mink vomit model, meanwhile we examined the mechanisms aiming at the release of 5-HT and substance P in gastrointestine. The follows are the results:1 Compared with control groups,EC(20mg·kg-1) can prolong the emetic latency and reduce the number of retching and emesis induced by cisplatin in mink (P<0.01).2 EC groups can not obviously inhibit the emetic induced by Copper sulfate (P>0.05),EC(20mg·kg-1) can inhibit the emetic induced by Apomorphine in mink, the number of retching and emesis are reduced(P<0.05).3 EC(20mg·kg-1) can reduce the number of retching and emesis induced by rotation in mink(P<0.05).4 Compared with model groups,EC groups can inhibit the pica behavior in rats induced by cisplatin and increase the wastage of food(P<0.05).5 EC groups can inhibit the pica behavior induced by apomorphine, the intake of gaolin was reduced(P<0.05).6 EC groups can inhibit the pica behavior induced by rotation in rats(P<0.05).7 The result of immunohistochemistry test revealed that ,compared with the cisplatin model group , the distribution of the SP in the muscular layer of sinus ventriculi in EC groups was significantly diminished and the tinction was light.8 The result of HPLC manifests that the release of 5-HT induced by PDD can be resisted by the EC groups contrast to the control group. Conclusion: The extract of Capsicum have antiemetic effects on traditional rat's pica model and novel mink's vomit model induced by a veriaty emetogens, the peripheral mechanisms maybe through inhibit the release of 5-HT and P substance in gastrointestine and then inhibit the emetic centre.
