Acute viral bronchiolitis is one of the most common causes of hospitalisation during infancy,Norway, with respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) historically being the "major causative agent.RSV causes respiratory disease in young children worldwide and by the age of two years most children have been infected.Symptoms vary from a mild upper respiratory tract infection to severe bronchiolitis with hyperinflated lungs and hypoxemia. The first infection is usually the most severe but milder reinfections are common throughout life. Many infants with severe RSV bronehiolitis experience recurrent wheezing in later childhood and there is growing evidence that early-life RSV bronchiolitis may predispose some infants to the development of childhood asthma. An imbalance in the Th1/Th2 cytokine immune response contribute to RSV induced asthma. It would induce a decrease in the Th1 products with the imbalance between Th1/Th2 cytokines and a shift to Th2 response. There is a strong association between respiratory syncytial virus-induced bronchiolitis in infancy and recurrent wheeze up to 12 years of age. Both the respiratory tract and the immune system undergo rapid maturation during the first year of life, and it seems that postnatal development is affected by and affects responses to viral infections. In this study,we examined whether immunologic intervention improved the Th1/Th2immunologic derangement and recurring gasp on acute bronehiolitis,we examined 50 infants with acute bronchiolitis whose age less than 6 months were randomly divided into 2 groups:observed group and control group.Meanwhile 15 normal infants were observed. The control group was treated with routine therapy. The observed group was treated with polysaccharide nucleic acid fraction of BCG for one year besides the routine therapy. The level of serum IL-10,IL-12 were measured by using ELISA before and after treatment. Moreover, the times of gasping and duration of gasping were follow-up visited for 2 years.Through treating with polysaccharide nucleic acid fraction of BCG,the levels of IL-10 were significantly decreased and levels of IL-12 were significantly advanced(P<0.01)were found, and the times of gasping in 2 years were decreased(P<0.001).This study provides immunologic intervention can improve the immunologic derangement of Th1/Th2 of bronchiolitis and prevention the development of asthmatic.
