Objective:Study on the changes and significant of sex hormone levels in hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods:The serum levels of estrodiol, testosterone, prolactin and E2/T ratio in hepatocellular carcinoma patients, liver cirrhosis patients and normal control grous were determined by using chemiluminescente microparticle immunoassay method. All the data collected were calculated by the statistic software of SPSS 13.0 and used one-way ANOVA for group comparison. Results:The serum sex hormone levels and E2/T ratio were relatively higher in 40 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma compared with the 40 patients with liver cirrhosis and 31 people in normal control group(p<0.01).The serum sex hormone levels and E2/T ratio in liver cirrhosis patents were higher than the normal control group and had statistical significant(p<0.05).The serum levels of estradiol, prolactin and E2/T ratio of 30 patients with hepatoeellular carcinoma and 30 patients with liver cirrhosis in male were higher than those 21 people in normal control group, but the testosterone level was lower than it.All these changes had statistical significant(p<0.01).The comparison of sex hormone levels and E2/T ratio in male patients between hepatocelluar carcinoma and liver cirrhosis had statistical significant(p<0.01).The female E2/T ratio of 10 patients with hepatocelluar carcinoma and 10 patients with liver cirrhosis were higher than the 10 people in normal control group and had statistical significant(p<0.05).While the sex hormone levels didn't have any significant(p>0.05).The E2/T ratio in female patients between HCC and liver cirrhosis hadn't any significant(p>0.05).The comparison of male serum E2,PRL,T and E2/T ratio between 12 metastasis patients and those without in 18 hepatocellular carcinoma patients hadn't any statistical significant(p>0.05).Conclusions:The imbalance of sex hormones in male were relative with the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma. The serum E2/T ratio could be used as an index for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. The monitoring of serum sex hormone level changes could be helpful for the endocrine therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma.
