| Objective:atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias.Recently, more and more attention was paid to the relationship between inflammation and atrial fibrillation. Some markers of inflammation such as C-reaction protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a),interleukin-6(IT-6),matrix metalloproteinase(MMPs),were often at high levels in the patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, which indicated that inflammation may has a role in the pathology of atrial fibrillation. Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A(HMG CoA) that is called statins too concludes simvastain, atorvastatin, pravastatin etc.It is known now that statins has effects not only regulating blood lipid but also inhibiting inflammation of artery, lowering the levels of CRP and TNF-a..Lots of large scale clinical trials have confirmed that statins has other effects such as antiarrhythmia. In order to investigate the role of inflammation in the pathology of atrial fibrillation as well as the role of statins in inhibiting inflammation,we observed the levels of CRP and TNF-a in peripheral serum of patients with atral fibrillation before and post the therapy of statins. Thus,we performed the preliminary study on the mechanism of atrial fibrillation and the therapeutic effect of simvastatin in trearting atrial fibrillation. Methods:all the fasting blood of the patients were collected at the time points when atrial fibrillation was persistent as well as the second day that it was converted to sinus rhythm, the 14th and 28th day after treatment. To test the levels of CRP and TNF-αby enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and.radioimmunoassay.Results:The levels of CRP and TNF-αare significantly higher during atrial fibrillation attack and recurrence and return to normal on the 14th and 28th day after atrial fibrillation was converted to sinus. Conclusions:Inflammation may take a important role in the initiation and development of atrial fibrillation. To lower the serum level of CRP may reduce the attack and persistence of atrial fibrillation which may further decrease the incidence of embolism.. |
