Objective:To investigate the expressions and clinical significance of phosphatase and tensin homology deleted on chromosome ten(PTEN ) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF ) proteins in bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC ) and the relationship between their expressions. Methods:The expression of PTEN and VEGF were detected by immunohistochemical S-P method in paraffin sections of 66 cases of bladder cancer samples,PTEN protein expression was compared with clinical pathologic parameter and VEGF protein expression. Results:The positive rate of PTEN was 43.94%(29/66 ) in BTCC,VEGF was 72.73%(48/66),The expression of PTEN and VEGF proteins in cancer tissue were significant difference to theirs in normal tissue(p<0.05 ).With the pathological grade of tumors being higher, the lower expression level of PTEN showed(p<0.05),have statistical significance, while the expression of VEGF increased with no statistical significance(p>0.05);With the clinical stage of tumor being higher, the lower expression level of PTEN showed(p<0.05), the expression of VEGF increased(p<0.05),and having a significant difference between groups. The expression of PTEN was negatively correlated with that of VEGF(r=-0.458,p<0.01).Conclusion:The positively correlation was found between the expressions of PTEN,VEGF with the clinical pathologic characters and the biological behavior of BTCC.Combined detection of PTEN and VEGF may be helpful to evaluate malignant degree and prognosis of BTCC.
