Objective To investigate the relationship between estrogen receptor gene polymorphism and cerebral infarction in old men of Yunnan, and analyzed the difference of serum estrogen between cerebral infarction and normal men.Method Select the han Chinese patients with atherothrombotic cerebral infarction and common men from The First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical College Department, whose ages are no less than 55.Polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) was used to determine estrogen receptor genotype on subjects. And the concentration of estrogen in patients with cerebral infarction and in control subjects was determined.Result There was no significant statistical difference either in genotype or in allele frequency between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no statistical difference in the concentration of estrogen in the groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Our data shows no relationship between estrogen receptor gene polymorphism and the onset of cerebral infarction.Estrogen receptor gene is not a susceptibility locus for the risk of cerebral infarction. There is no relationship between serum estrogen and cerebral infarction.Estrogen might not be a good testing index for cerebral infarction.
