Objective To sdudy the clinicopathologic features and strategy of diagnosis and treatment of retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Methods The clinical and pathological data of 10 patients with retroperitoneal liposarcoma(diagnosed by surgical and pathlogical way)admitted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Universty between 2005 and 2008 were analyzed retrospectively, and review some latest literatures. Results The most common symptoms are abdominal mass(9 patients),abdominal swelling(6 patients)and abdominal pain(3 patients),including 3 recurrent cases. The B-type ultrasonic examination and Computer Tomography examination is the main workup, the accuracy of position oriented diagnosis are 60%(6/10)and 77.8%(7/9).All the patients recieved surgical operation, including 9 patients recieved completely excision within 2 patients have the adjacent viscera cut off,and 1 patient recieved an incomplete excision. The median survival time of all 10 patients is 30 months, and the 3 year survival is 90%.Conclusion The computer tomography, which is better than the B-type ultrasonic examiniation,is an important method to diagnose retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Completely excision with cutting off the adjacent viscera if the lesion invasived the adjacent organs,is the major treatment of retroperitoneal liposarcoma. The tumors are easy to locally recur after incomplete excision, and the surgical operation is still the best treatment.
