Clinical Research On Life Quality Of Sufferers Of Stable COPD (Lung-Qi's Deficiency Syndrome) With The Treatment Of The Traditional Medical Prescription "Yupingfeng San"

AIM:To explore the significance of treating stable COPD (the Syndrome of Lung-Qi's Deficiency) with the traditional medical prescription"Yupingfeng San"via clinical research on symptoms,pulmonary function,immune system and life quality of patients,for future extensive application of this treatment.METHODS:â‘ Clinical Trial:Acording to diagnostic,staging and grading criteria given by the official document "Guideline for Diagnosis and Treatment of COPD"(2007 Edition),65 random samples of the Grade 1,2and3 of stable COPD (Lung-Qi's Deficiency Syndrome) are divided into two groups:The experimental group is called the "Yupingfeng San" group,and the other group is a blank control group. The clinical trial is an open-label trial. The roll of the experimental group take the preparation of the traditional medical prescription "Yupingfeng San",and the blank control group does not take any medicine. The trial period for each spans sixty days. FEV1,FVC,FEV1/FVC,IgA,IgG,IgM, IgE will be tested every twenty days,and the clinical symptoms also will be recorded. After the clinical trial of all subjects,the trial data will be analyzed by statistical software,researching the influence of traditional medical prescription "Yupingfeng San" on improving the clinical symptoms,pulmonary function,immune system and life quality of the sufferers of stable COPD (Lung-Qi's Deficiency Syndrome).â‘¡Literary research:Researching how the traditional Chinese medical science explains"Yupingfeng San"and COPD (Lung-Qi's Deficiency Syndrome) by referring to medical literature of ancient times and modern times. This will give academic basis to the clinical trials.RESULTS:The main clinical symptoms of the experimental group have been significantly improved (P<0.01). The difference of FEV1,FVC,FEV1% between the experimental group and the blank control group had no statistical significance. There was a remarkable increase in IgA,IgG and IgM of the experimental group (P<0.05), while IgE decreased but had no statistical significance (P>0.05). There was a remarkable decrease in IgE of the blank control group (P<0.05),but other changes of immune system of the blank control group had no statistical significance (P>0.05). It shows"Yupingfeng San"can significantly increase IgA,IgG and IgM.About life quality,there was a remarkable decrease in F1S,F3S,F4S and TMS of the experimental group (P<0.05),but F2S had no remarkable change (P>0.05). It shows the life quality of the experimental group has been significantly improved. The changes of F2S,F3S,F4S of the blank control group had no statistical significance (P>0.05),while the improvement of F1S and TMS had statistical significance (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:"Yupingfeng San"can significantly improve the clinical symptoms, immune system and life quality of patients. Its pharmacological effect is to boost the immune system of a body vianourishing the Qi of the lungs and the spleen. So the disease process can be delayed,and the life quality of patients can be improved.
