A Controlled Study Of Short-term Systemic Family Therapy For Schizophrenics

Objective: To evaluate the Psychiatric symptoms and the family functions between the short-term Systemic Family Therapy (SFT) associated with drugs and the drugs alone for schizophrenics.Methods: The 70 patients with schizophrenia were collected according to the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, fourth edition (DSM) forⅣ– diagnostic criteria, and 70 his primary caregiver were collected too. The schizophrenics were randomly divided into two groups in family units, one is the short-term Systemic Family Therapy (SFT) associated with drugs(family group), the other is the drugs alone(drug group).The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scales (PANSS) were recorded in the schizophrenics during the periods in their episode of pre-treated 1-3days and 4-week after been treated . The family function of schizophrenics was evaluated by Family Dynamics self-evaluation Questionnaire ( FDQ) and Family Members Grapy (FMG).Results:1.There are no difference between the famiy group and the drug group in each aspect point of PANSSand FDQ before treatment(P>0.05).2.Comparing difference value of each aspect of PANSS,FDQ pre-test and post-test scores of family group: There are significant differences (P﹤0.001orP﹤0.05).3.Comparing difference value of each aspect of PANSS,FDQ pre-test and post-test scores of drug group: There are significant differences(P﹤0.001orP﹤0.05) .4.Comparing difference value of each aspect of PANSS pre-test and post-test scores between family group and drug group: There is no difference of the positive syndrome and negative syndrome ,There are significant difference of General psychopathology between family group and drug group(P﹤0.05or P﹤0.01).5.Comparing difference value of each aspect of FDQ pre-test and post-test scores between between family group and drug group:There are no difference in individuation between two groups(P>0.05),There are significent differences in family atmosphere,concept of the disease and systemic logic between two groups(P﹤0.05) .Conclusion:1.There are no difference in improving schizophrenia patients individuation, the positive syndrome and the negative syndrome between the short-term Systemic Family Therapy (SFT) associated with drugs and the drugs alone for schizophrenics. 2.The efficiency of SFT is much better than of drugs alone in improving General psychopathology symptoms about schizophrenia.3. The efficiency of SFT is much better than of drugs alone in improving some family function of schizophrenia patients,as family atmosphere,concept of the disease,systemic logic,member expresstion,interactive mode,andeach boundary .
