ObjectiveTo investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics of multiple primary colorectal carcinoma(MPCC) and to facilitate its diagnosis and treatment. MethodsA retrospective analysis of 18 patients with MPCC from 1999 to 2007 in our hospital was carried out.ResultsThe incidence of MPCC was 1.04%(18/1725)in patients with primary colorectal carcinomas.Of the 18 patients with multiple primary colorectal cancers,12 patients were male and six patients were female, with a mean age of 57.5 years.11 cases being synchronous caminoma(SC)and 7 cases diagnosed as metachronous carcinoma(MC).Most tumors were located in the right—side colon and rectum.A total of 14 cases(77.8%) were diagnosed by fiberoptic colonoscopy before operation. The diagnosis rate of SC by fiberoptic colonoscopy before operation were 72.7%(8 cases). The diagnosis rate of MC by fiberoptic colonoscopy before operation were 85.7 %(6 cases).Among 11 cases of SC,9 cases had radical excision,1 had colostomy and 1 given up operation.Of 7 cases of MC,5 cases had a total of 14 colectomies and 1 case had colostomy. The overall 5-year survival rate of the patients in SC Was 45.5%(5/ 11).the overall 5-year survival rate of the patients in MC after the first operation Was 71.4%(5/7).ConclusionClinician should improve the recognition of MPCC.Patients with colorectal carcinoma should undergo routine fibercolonscopy and standard radical excision.Periodic follow-up for the high-risk group should be highlighted.
