Objective:To analyze 478 cases who underwent fine-needle aspiration(FNA)or core needle biopsy(CNB),and compare the results with surgical pathologies, discuss the value of FNA and CNB in diagnosis of breast masses.Determine the accuracy of immunohistochemical results of preoperative core biopsy specimens through comparative analysis of estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor(PR),and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2) status in both the core biopsy and surgical specimens. Methods:A total of 478:patients with breast masses had been biopsied with fine needle(325 cases) or core needle(355 cases). The pathological results were retrospectively analyzed and compared with the pathological results after operation. Among them,47 cases which had immunohistochemical results of the ER,PR,HER-2 gene both in preoperative core needle biopsy and surgical excision specimens were collected, and compared with the difference between them. Results:The FNA's sensibility(84.8%),specificity(99.1%),positivity accuracy rate (88.7%),positive predictive value(99.6%),negative predictive value(70.8%),The CNB's sensibility(92.8%),specificity(100%),positivity accuracy rate(94.3%),positive predictive value 100%,negative predictive value(77.5%).CNB has a high rate of sensibility and positive predictive value(p<0.05).The concordance rates for histologic type of ER,PR, and HER-2 status were 93.6%,89.4%,85,1%,respectively.Conclusions:FNA and CNB is an alternative to surgical excision for assessing breast masses.FNA surpassed CNB for sensibility and positive predictive.Core biopsy can predict histologic type,ER,PR and HER-2 status preoperatively in breast cancer.
