Caulis Piperis Kadsurae is the dry aerial parts of Piper kadsura(Choisy) Ohwi.of Piperaceae plants.It can dispel rheumatism,dredge meridians and stop arthralgia recorded according to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.Rheumatism in western medicine is also called arthralgia syndrome. This disease is emergent and difficult to cure.Its clinical symptoms are joint pain,swell,stiffness,deformation or even the destruction of cartelage and bone.There are many antirheumatic drugs at home and abroad but few of them have go-od effect and less side-effect.Caulis Piperis Kadsurae has been used in the folk for many years because of its better antirheumatic treatment and non-toxicity.However the breeds of Caulis Piperis Kadsurae are very disordered at market.We always discover that it is replaced by the other plants.For example,Piper kadsura(Choisy) Ohwi and Piper hancei Maxim are used in Fujian,Piper wallichii (Miq.)Hand.-Mazz.is used in Zhejiang,Kadsura heteroclita(Roxb.) Craib is used in Guangdong and Usnea diffracta Vain is used in Hubei, Sichuan and Guizhou,etc.Base on pharmacological research,phytochemistry and quality study of Piper kadsura have been carried out,we hve carried out serial studies onthe chemical constituents and anti-inflamtry effect of Piper kadsura(Choisy)Ohwi.in this paper,in order to find out,develop the new antirheumatic drugs and clarify its material basis airheumatic effect.The pharmacological experimental research has indicated that volatile oil,ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of Piper kadsura(Choisy) Ohwi. can both obviously restrain inflammation.Then we have taken out a series of studies onthe chemical constituents of Piper kadsura(Choisy) -Ohwi.7 monomers have been isolated on column chrom-atography of silical gel from ethyl acetate extract and 5 monomers' structures of th- em have been identified as dihydropiperlonguminine(Ⅰ),pipperlonguminine (Ⅱ)(2trans4cis) - N-isobutyl-5(3.4methylenediolylphenyl)penta-2.4-dienoic amide,(Ⅲ),2,4-dimethoxyl2,4-pentadienaldehyde(Ⅳ),stigmasterol (Ⅴ).Thirty compounds have been detected from essential oil extract by means of GC-MS.They are 4(10)-thujene(1),2(10) -pinene(2),α-pinene (3),1.8-nonadiyne(4),1.9-decadiyne(5),1.3-decadiyne(6),trans-2-ethyl-2-hexen-1-ol(7),2-undecanone(8),santolina triene(9),farnesol(10), bicyclo[7,2,0]undec-4-ene.4,11,11 - trimethyl-8-methylene(11),5.9-tetradecadiyne (12),α-caryophyllene,(13),10-undecyn-1-ol(14),naphthalene.1,2, -3,4,4α,7-hexahydro-1,6-dimethyl -4-(1-methylethyl)(15),(Z)-(-)-1.9-heptadecadiene -4.6-diyne-3-ol(16),5-octyn-3-ol(17),myrcenol(18),cis-asarone (19),trans-Z-α-bisabolene epoxide(20),1-heptyn-6-one(21),cyclopropylmethyl carbinol(22),dimethyl nitromethane(23),formamide.N-formyl-N-methyl (24),α-bisabolol oxide B(25),s-triazole(26),2.4-hexadiyne(27), ethyl nonanoate(28),tetradecanoic acid(29)and undec-10-ynoic acid(30).We have compared the volatile oil of Piper kadsura from different extract methods by means of GC-MS.
