Aim: To study the relationship between CXCR4 and VEGF-C expression in osteosarcoma tissue, and to further compare CXCR4 and VEGF-C expression inisolated osteosarcoma patients with that in osteosarcoma complicated by lung metastasispatients. Methods: 64 isolated osteosarcoma patients and osteosarcoma complicated by lung metastasis patients were recruited in department of orthopaedics of the first affiliated hospital of central south University. The immunohistochemical expression of chemokine CXCR4 and VEGF-C were analyzed using S-P immunohistochemical method. Results: VEGF-C expressed in cytoplasm of tumor cells and endothelial cells.CXCR4 expressed in nucleus,as well as in cytoplasm of tumor cells. The expression percentage of CXCR4 and VEGF-C in isolated osteosarcoma patients were 33.3%and 38.9%,respectively.The expression percentage of CXCR4 and VEGF -C in osteosarcoma complicated by lung metastasis patients were 72.2%and 67.8%,respectively.The immunohistochemical expression of CXCR4 was correlated with the expression of VEGF-C in osteosarcoma tissue. Conclusion: The percentage of CXCR4 expression is significantly higher inosteosarcoma complicated by lung metastasis patients than isolated osteosarcoma patients, and this chemokine can be considered as an important reference marker for osteosarcoma complicated by lung metastasis. There is significant difference of percentage of VEGF-C expression between isolated osteosarcoma patients and osteosar-coma complicated by lung metastasis patients. So,there is significant correlation between the expression of CXCR4 and VEGF -C in osteosarcoma tissue.
