Objective: To study the risk factors of aortic valve degeneration (AVD) and the predictive value of aortic valve degeneration (AVD) for the presence of coronary artery disease(CAD) and the correlation between AVD and severity of coronary artery disease by using transthoracic echocardiography(TTE) and coronary angiography. Methods: Totally 336 patients were divided into no CAD group and CAD group according to coronary angiography. CAD group was divided into single-branch lesions group and multi-branch lesions group. Then all the patients were divided into no AVD group and AVD group according to echocardiography. Each of them had undergone echocardiography, coronary angiography and blood biochemistry analysis. Some possible risk factors including age, sex, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, family coronary artery disease history, body mass index, carotid atherosclerosis (CAS), AVD, blood glucose, serum lipid, blood uric acid, blood total bile acid and total bilirubin were analyzed. Results: There is significant difference in age, sex, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, family coronary artery disease history, total cholesterol, LDL-C, body mass index, CAS, AVD, blood glucose and uric acid between non CAD group and CAD group(P<0. 05, P<0. 01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, male, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, body mass index and high serum LDL-C are independent risk factors of coronary artery disease. There is significant difference in age, hypertension, diabetes, LDL-C, CAS and AVD between single-branch lesions group and multi-branch lesions group(P<0. 05, P<0. 01). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, diabetes, high serum LDL-C ,CAS and AVD are independent risk factors of severity of coronary artery disease. There is significant difference in age, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, total cholesterol, LDL-C, blood uric acid and CAS between AVD group and non AVD group(P<0. 05, P<0. 01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, diabetes, high serum LDL-C and CAS are independent risk factors of AVD.Conclusion: Aortic valve degeneration is correlated with multiple risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Aortic valve degeneration is correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesions and can save as an independent risk factor of severity of coronary artery disease. There is a significant relationship between AVD and CAD and AVD has a higher predictive value for CAD. The coronary artery lesion can be predicted by examining the aortic valve by echocardiography. Age, diabetes, high serum LDL-C ,CAS are independent risk factors of AVD and severity of coronary artery disease. AVD may have the similar pathological basis and risk factors with atherosclerosis.
