Objectives: This investigation is designed on the basis of clinical cases of the previous data analysis and clinical practice. Directed by Chinese medicine theory dialectic and the literature on history, and combined with modern medicine to recognize the essential hypertension in the elderly. Through clinical observations to explore essential hypertension in elderly traditional Chinese medicine syndrome consisting of physical and chemical characteristics, risk stratification, heart, brain, kidney target-organ damage related to each other. Methods: 575 case of elderly patients with essential hypertension who in elderly subjects, heart medicine, neurology, renal medicine inpatient or outpatient from Jiangsu Province Chinese medicine hospital during 2007.2~2009.2. The patients consist of 337 cases of male and 238 cases of female who age 60~90 years old, the average age (73.66±6.37 years old) . Reference to the 2002《Chinese medicine clinical research guiding principles in Chinese traditional medicine》, It can be devided 119 cases of liver-fire Kang Sheng, 208 cases of yin xu yang kang, 71cases of deficiency of Yin and Yang, 177cases of dampness. Analyzing the composition of Chinese traditional medicine syndrome with sex, age, medical history, family history, the relevance of factors, risk stratification, heart, brain, renal vascular target organ damage to provide a relatively objective basis on clinical use of Chinese medicine for the treatment of high blood pressure.Result: 575 cases of essential hypertension in elderly patients who entered the final analysis. 119 cases of liver-fire Kang Sheng, 208 cases of yin xu yang kang, 71 cases of deficiency of Yin and Yang, 177 cases of dampness. Evidence-based group of four no gender differences in patients, liver-fire Kang Sheng group' age is too small, there is no difference compared with other three groups. Elderly patients with essential hypertension of long duration, high blood pressure the length of the course followed by liver-fire Kang Sheng type< yin xu yang kang type < dampness type < Yin and Yang deficiency type. Elderly patients with essential hypertension in most type of dampness and yin xu yang kang .The impact of various factors in the analysis of blood pressure, family history, personal factors, age may be related to the existence of traditional Chinese medicine Syndrome Types, the individual may be related to physical aspects of Chinese medicine. Evidence-based group of four target-organ damage in the coronary heart disease than cerebrovascular disease, renal damage in the high incidence of disease, which is one of the four common features. There is no differences between Four-card heart-type groups and in kidney damage. There are differences in brain damage between yin xu yang kang type group and the other three groups, p<0.05. Cardiac damage in different dampness and deficiency of yin and yang of coronary heart disease group was significantly higher than liver-fire and Kang Sheng and yin xu yang kang group, P<0.05; Yin and Yang deficiency group of heart failure is significantly higher than the other three groups, p<0.05; liver-fire Kang Sheng group of heart failure was significantly lower than the other three groups, p<0.05. The occurrence of arrhythmia in four card-type group in no significant differences. Brain damage in four different card types, the incidence of ischemic stroke in the yin xu yang kang group and dampness group are higher than liver-fire Kang Sheng group and Liver Yin and Yang deficiency group, p<0.05; incidence of hemorrhagic stroke in dampness group was significantly lower than the other three groups, p<0.05; he incidence of transient ischemic attack in group of liver-fire Kang Sheng was significant higher than the other three groups, p< 0.05. Damage in renal function, there are some differences in liver-fire Kang Sheng group with mild proteinuria and Yin and Yang deficiency group, p<0.05; Moderate proteinuria showed no difference in the proportion of patients; there are some differences in Yin and Yang deficiency group with massive proteinuria and liver-fire Kang Sheng, and no difference in other group, P< 0.05.Conclusions: Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome of hypertension in varying degrees from the body revealed the prevalence of individual differences, Hypertensive patients with evidence-based differences in target organ damage, Traditional Chinese medicine prompted hypertension is possible to predict the heart, brain, kidney and other target organ damage of vascular events.
