| Objective:To explore the therapeutical effect of intra-articular injection with paeonol and acupuncture Zusanli on the rabbit's knee osteoarthritis model.Methods:Ten rabbits were randomly selected from fifty rabbits as A(normal group). The ten rabbits were not given any treatment.Rabbit models of knee osteoarthritis were made by intra-articular injection with papain and randomly divided into four groups(n=10):B(model group),C(paeonol group),D(acupuncture group) and E (paeonol and acupuncture group).The rabbits in B group were not given any treatment after modeled.The rabbits in C group were injected with paeonol(0.5%, 0.3 mL) into right knee joint cavity for five times(qw).The rabbits in D group were acupunctured bilateral Zusanli for twenty-nine times(qd).The rabbits in E group were injected with paeonol(0.5%,0.3 mL) into right knee joint cavity for five times(qw) and also acupunctured bilateral Zusanli for twenty-nine times(qd). Then the content of IL-1βand TNF-αin serum were measured after treatment.The cartilage of femur condyle were collected to do histopathologic examination.SPSS 13.0 software was performed in the statistical analysis.Results:(1) The content of IL-1βand TNF-αin C,D and E group were lower than these in B group(p＜0.05) but higher than these in A group(p＞0.05).Compared with A group,the content of IL-1βand TNF-αin B C,D and E group were higher than these in A group(p＜0.05).Significant differences were found between C,D group and E group(p＜0.05).(2) Results of pathological examination:The pathological injury of cartilage in B group was severer than this in A,C,D and E group.The cartilage injury in C,D and E group had been partly recovery, especially in E group.Conclusion:(1) Intra-articular injection with papain could successfully make the OA model.(2) It is considered that intra-articular injection with paeonol and acupuncture Zusanli could significantly degrade the content of IL-1βand TNF-αin serum and promote recovery of joint cartilage.
