Objective: To study the expression of Ezrin protein and CD44v6 in pancreatic carcinoma, and the relationship of the expression with the clinical pathology characteristics of pancreatic carcinoma, and also to understand the correlation between the expression of Ezrin protein and CD44v6 in the pathogenesy of pancreatic carcinoma. Methods: The tissue removed in operation for pathohistological examination was collected as samples for immunohistochemistry staining , among them 42 samples were pancreatic carcinoma, 20 samples chronic pancreatitis, 15 samples carcinoma side tissues as control. All the samples were collected in Hunan people's provincial hospital dating from Jan 2002 to Dec 2007. The clinical data of the patients suffered from pancreatic carcinoma were copied including their age, gender, the location and histological classification of the carcinoma, lymphatic gland metastasis and so on. Finally all the samples were stained by SP method, an immunohistochemistry technique, to observe the expression of Ezrin protein and CD44v6 under microscope. Then the cell stained positive was located and a subsequent semi-quantitative analysis was conducted.Results:1.The positive rates of Ezrin protein expression in the samples were 85.7% (36/42), 55.0% (11/20), 33.3% (5/15) respectively. The expression of Ezrin prortein in pancreatic carcinoma was significantly higer than in 15 samples carcinoma side tissues and chronic pancreatitis(P<0.01).2.There was a significant correlation between the expression of Ezrin protein in pancreatic carcinoma with the type of pathology, lymphatic gland metastasis and the depath of invasion(P<0.05).There was no significant correlation between the expression of Ezrin protein with the patients'age, gender, and the location of pancreatic carcinoma so on(P>0.05).3.The positive rates of CD44v6 expression in the samples were 78.6%(33/42) ,50.0%(10/20),26.7%(4/15) respectively. The expression of CD44v6 in pancreatic carcinoma was significantly higer than in 15 samples carcinoma side tissues and chronic pancreatitis(P<0.05).4.There was a significant correlation between the expression of CD44v6 in pancreatic carcinoma with the type of pathology, lymphatic gland metastasis and the depath of invasion(P<0.05).There was no significant correlation between the expression of CD44v6 with the patients'age, gender, and the location of pancreatic carcinoma so on(P>0.05).5.In pancreatic carcinoma The exoression of Ezrin protein was positive correlation with that of CD44v6(r=0.38;P<0.05).Conclusion:1. Ezrin protein and CD44v6 positive anomalies related to the invasion and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma.2. In pancreatic carcinoma The exoression of Ezrin protein was positive correlation with that of CD44v6.3.The expression of Ezrin proteinand CD44v6 significantly increased in pancreatic carcinoma .higher Ezrin protein and CD44v6 expression imply more aggressive malignant behaviors of pancreatic carcinoma.
