Objectives:In this experiment, we investigated the expressions of PTEN and VEGF-C in order to explore their correlation in tumorigenesis and progression in hepatocellular carci- nomas. Meanwhile, throuth the experiment, we try to approach the role and clinical significance of PTEN and VEGF-C in hepatocellular carcinomas.Methods:40 paraffin embedded tissues from hepatocellular carcimomas and 18 pefican- cerous tissues which were excised by department of general surgery of 1st hospital of DLMEDU during 1993-1997 were collected in the research. By the means of immuno- histochemical S-P method, we try to find out the expression, significance and correla- tion of PTEN and VEGF-C both in hepatocellular carcimomas and peficancerous tissues.Results:1.The positive expression rate of PTEN in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and peficancerous tissues were 57.5%(23/40) and 88.8%(16/18),with significant difference(χ~2=5.553,P=0.018<0.05).The expression of PTEN in hepatocellular carcinoma was related to the TNM Staging(χ~2=5.966,P=0.015<0.05)and they were negative correlation(γ=-0.386,P=0.014<0.05).2. The positive expression rate of VEGF-C in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and peficancerous tissues were 72.5%(29/40)and 22.2%(4/18), with significant difference(χ~2=12.796,P=0.001<0.05).The expression of PTEN in hepatocellular carcinoma was related to the lymphatic metastasis(χ~2=4.713,P=0.03<0.05)and they were positive correlation(γ=0.343,P=0.03<0.05).3.The expression of PTEN and VEGF-C were negative correlation with significant difference(γ=-0.377,P=0.017<0.05). Conclusion:1. The deletion in expression of PTEN in hepatocellular carcinoma was related to the canceration of hepatocyte.VEGF-C may play an important role in the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma.2.The negative correlation of PTEN and VEGF-C pointed out that the deletion in expression of PTEN increased the possibility of the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma.3.The exceptional expression of both PTEN and VEGF-C may play an significant role in the canceration, progress and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
