Objective To explore the association of Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 2(FABP2) Ala54Thr gene polymorphism with the occurrence of stroke and the effect to blood pressure,fasting blood glucose,fasting blood fat of patients with stroke in han population of Hunan province.Methods FABP2 Ala54Thr gene polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction(PCR),restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) in 206 patients with cerebral infarction,185 patients with cerebral hemorrhage and 172 healthy controls.Results1.In the study populations,the Frequencies of FABP2 Ala54Thr genotypes are Ala54Ala45.3%,Ala54Thr48.3%,and Thr 54Thr 6.4%, G allele frequency and A allele frequency are 69.5%and 30.5%.2.FABP2 Ala54Thr polymorphism revealed no significant difference of genotype and allelic distribution in Stroke Patients and its subgroups(including cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage) and control group. 3.FABP2 Ala54Thr polymorphism did not differ significantly in genotype and allelic distribution between men and women of Stroke patients and control group.4.In Stroke Patients and its subgroups,Thr54 homozygotes and Thr54 heterozygotes demonstrated higher level of fasting plasma triglyceride(TG) than wild-type(Ala54 homozygotes).fasting blood-fat index revealed no significant difference of genotype in control group.5.In Stroke Patients,Significantly higher triglyceride(TG) and lower high density lipoprotein(HDL) were manifested in Thr54 homozygotes and Thr54 heterozygotes than wild-type(Ala54 homozygotes) in men.Significantly higher TG was manifested in Thr54 homozygotes and Thr54 heterozygotes than wild-type(Ala54 homozygotes) in women.6.In Stroke Patients and its subgroups,blood pressure and fasting blood glucose were not significantly different among the three genotypes. Blood pressure and fasting blood glucose also revealed no significant difference of genotype in control group.Conclusions1.The FABP2 Ala54Thr gene polymorphism might not be independent risk factor involved in the incidence of stroke and also not be associated with blood pressure and blood glucose in han population of Hunan province.2.The FABP2 Ala54Thr gene polymorphism might have a certain contribution to abnormity of lipoprotein metabolism in stroke patients.
