Complex biological system is one of the most important fields in the study of analytical scicence.Generally,Proteomics,Genomics,Metabonomics,System biology and Chinese herbal compound formula system and so on all belong to complex biological systems,which usually include hundred or thousand variables.It is difficult to analyse these systems.Presently,anilytical systems can be divided into three kinds:white system,gray system and black system.The complex biological system usually belongs to a black system.Nowdays,pattern recoginition methods of many kinds have been applied to the research of white and gray system availably, while the research on black system is still a difficult problem.In this research paper, we introduced a pattern recoginition method sutible to analyse the black system—Chinese compound formula.Chinese herbal compound formula is a kind of classical prescription in Chinese medicine,it possesses the advatanges of curing complex human diseases and small side effects,which is gradually popular with all people in the world.On the other hand,Chinese herbal compound formulae consist of more than two kinds hebal medicine,they contain thousands of chemical components which are changeble easily, so the exact estimation and quality control of Chinese herbal compound formula is a difficult and significant subject.For the moment,there are many research methods applied to identification of herbal medicines and their quality estimation.However, these methods usually rely on standard samples,reference samples or prior experience, which are not suitable to black system—the Chinese herbal compound formula without obvious characteristics of apperarance,and it is not easy to select standard samples, reference samples relying on its apperarance.Therefore it is difficult to achieve the accurate estimation and quality control of Chinese herbal compound formulae.The study aims at introducing a new method capable of analysing black system,and the method possesses the ability to identify Chinese herbal compound formulae accurately and was applied to the reseach of several Dihuang pill series,Mingmu Dihuang pills,Zhibo Dihuang pills and Maiwei Dihuang pills. Dihuang pills medicine has a long history and several unique effects on curing human diseases.Liuwei Dihuang pills as an origin of Dihuang pill series,Zhibo Dihuang pills and Maiwei Dihung pills etc are composed of it and several other herbal medicines.Their composition are very similar to each other and very complex,so the quality control of dihuang pill series is an extremely complex and significant problem.In this paper,Dual index grade sequence pattern recognition were established based on dual-index(common peak ratio and variant peak ratio) sequence analysis, and this method has the ability to distinguish black systems—dihuang pill series subtly. In this method,the average of common peak ratio(?) and the standard deviation of common peak ratio S are computed,the quality gradation was defined mathematically relying on normal distribution,the peak ratio(P≥(?)+0.5*S) belongs to good grade sequences which can represent the characteristics of the reference excellently,so we can evaluate the quality of samples by applying the good grade sequences.In a word, for the three dihuang pills,we can make accurate estimation and quality control by its good grade sequences without any standard sample,control sample and prior experience.In the research,the components of the three pills were extracted successively with choroform,ethanol and water,and the IR fingerprint spectra of original powder and three extracts,HPLC fingerprint spectra of extract with ethanol were measured. Identification and quality control of the three pills were made from both common peak ratio and variant peak ratio.This paper is devided into four parts as follows,In first part,the review on fingerprint analysis methods were carride out all-around ground on about hundred literatures.In second part,the characteristics of different pattern analysis methods were summarized,after comparison,research ideas were established.At the same time,Dual index grade sequence pattern recognition were established,too.In third part,Zhibo Dihuang pill and liuwei dihuang pill whose quality is high similar are researched.For the purpose of better study,composition,pharmacody -namics,major chemical components of the 3 dihuang pills are summed up.In fourth part,experiments and conclusions were displaied.Dual index grade sequence pattern recognition method was applied to analysis the IR fingerprint spectra of original powder and three extracts,HPLC fingerprint spectra of extract with ethanol.The estimating conclusion showed that the same kind of Dihuang pills from the same factories are highly similar,the same kind of Dihuang pills from different factories are slightly different,at the same time,the results dependent on common peak ratio and variant peak ratio can reveal much information about the property of Dihuang pill series.In this paper,Dual index grade sequence pattern recognition model were established,the three Dihuang pills were identified and estimated firstly.The conclusion show that the method is great sutible to identify and estimate the black system—Chinese compound formula.
