Total knee arthroplasty has becoming a ripe surgical treatment for various serious arthritis at advanced stage such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and traumatic arthritis. Although the primal goal of total knee arthroplasty is relieving pain, improving joint range of motion becomes one of the main treatment goals with the sublimation of people's requirement to health and quality of life. Thus the research focus of total knee arthroplasty at present is the analysis of influencing factors of joint range of motion after surgery and the way of raising it utmost. There are many factors affecting range of motion after TKA. At present there are various monofactorial researches on range of motion, however, it is affected by a variety of factors. Consequently previous research findings should be summarized to analyze all affecting factors of joint range of motion after TKA.This paper analyzed many affecting factors of extension and flexion functions after TKA from various angles such as preoperation state, prothesis selection, surgical skills and operation physical exercise by reviewing a great deal of relevant literature. The analysis of this paper makes prediction and assessment of efficacy of patient who needs TKA before surgery, gives some theoretical basis to surgeons about mastering the operation skills of TKA and thereby provides the basis for enhancing the clinical effect of TKA and improving the patients' quality of life after surgery.
