Objective: To observe clinical therapeutic effect of treating peripheral facial paralysis with three facial acupoints of doctor Sheng in the acute and recovery stage, seek the most effective acupoints and needling therapy for relieving patients' suffering and shortening curative course, and discuss the problem of the best puncturing time point. Methods: Based on the diagnostic standard of "Practical Internal Medicine" of the 11th edition and "Clinical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Standard of Common Diseases" published by Union Medical University of China in 1993. 64 cases from Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of TCM were selected randomly and divided into two groups: 31 cases in treating group which is treated by three facial acupoints of doctor Sheng and 33cases in control group which is treated by traditional puncturing therapy. The treatment was given 6 times per week. The therapeutic effect was assessed respectively in the acute and recovery stage, and the data was recorded and dealt with statistical method. Results: The results showed that in the treating group(31 cases),0 cases healed completely well, 5 cases had marked effect, 15 cases had effect, and the total cure rate was 63% at the acute stage; 20 cases healed completely well, 5 cases had marked effect, 4 cases had effect, and the total cure rate was 94% at the recovering stage. In the control group(33 cases), 0 cases healed completely well, 6 cases had marked effect, 14 cases had effect, and the total cure rate was 61% at the acute stage; 13 cases healed completely well, 7 cases had marked effect, 9 cases had effect, and the total cure rate was 88% at the recovering stage. After dealting with statistics, the control group was 7.95±2.34, while the treating group was 7.81±3.35 at the acute stage; the control group was 1.68±2.68, while the treating group was 3.33±3.44 at the recovering stage. There was no significant difference between these two groups at the acute stage (P>0.05) , but significant difference at the recovering stage (P<0.05), it suggested that at the recovering stage, the treating group had got better effect.
