Observation Purpose1.To examine the effect of Facial three-Needle Acupuncture applied in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis.2.To standardize the treatment with the Facial three-Needle Acupuncture.3.To enhance acupuncture therapy in treating peripheral facial paralysis.MethodDiseased case collection derived from the out-patient ward of acupuncture Dept at Shengzhong Hospital.107 patients who were at the acute stage or the restoration stage were chosen according to facial paralysis diagnostic criterion issued on the book of Otolaryngology (7th edition).56 patients at the acute stage were separated into two groups at random.:27 cases of Facial three-Needle Acupuncture group and 29 cases of Conventional acupuncture group;51 patients at the restoration stage were also randomly divided into:26 cases of Facial three-Needle Acupuncture group and 25 cases of Conventional acupuncture group.1.Facial three-Needle Acupuncture group:Extra point 1(Miantan 1):one curt below Dicang(ST 4),penetrating to Jiache(ST 6),with depth of 2.5 cun.Extra point 2(Miantan 2):corresponds to Dayingxue(ST5),penetrating to Quanliao(SI 18), with 2.5 cun in depth.Extra point 3(Miantan 3):one cun below Taiyang(EX HN),penetrating to Sibai(ST2),1.5 indepth.Other points should be obliquely and slowly inserted 0.8-1.0 cun, sharp insertion is not recomended. If brows cannot be knitted:add Cuanzhu(BL2);If the lip and nose ditch is swollen, add Yingxiang(LI20);If Renzhong(DU 26) is deviated, add Shuigou; If palate margin is deviated, add Chengjiang(RN 24);If the front ear is painful, add Xiaguan(ST7);If the posterior aucular part is painful, add Yifeng(ST 27).Method:even method.Points of face are chosen on the attacked side, while other points are located on lateral parts.2.Conventional acupuncture group:Cuanzhu(BL2),Yangbai(GB14),Sibai(ST2),Quanliao(SI 18),Jiache(ST 6),Dicang(ST 4), Hegu(L 14).For patients with following conditions:If brows cannot be knitted:add Cuanzhu(BL2);If the lip and nose ditch is swollen, add Yingxiang(LI20);If Renzhong(DU 26) is deviated, add Shuigou; If palate margin is deviated, add Chengjiang(RN 24);If the front ear is painful, add Xiaguan(ST7);If the posterior aucular part is painful, add Yifeng(ST 27).Method:even method.Points of face are chosen on the attacked side, while other points are located on lateral parts. All the needles were single use Huato brand(Suzhou Medical Appliance Factory).Group one:0.30×75mm;0.30×40mm;Group two:0.30×40mm.Both groups treat take keep the needle time as 30 minutes, daily 1 time, every week 6 times, altogether observes 4weeks..Criterion of effect was based on House-Brackmann facial nerve recovery evaluation;Analysis was taken through Spss 12.0 Statistic software withχ2-test and T-test program language.Analysis1.The comparison of the House-Brackmann of the acute phase patients:Before the treatment:There were no apparent differences between these two groups P=0.110)0.05.After two weeks,no apparent differences were seen P=0.214>0.05;After four weeks,no apparent differences were observed P=0.239)0.05(T-test).Continuityχ2=0.115, P=0.734)0.05(χ2-test),there were also no apprent differences.2.The comparison of the House-Brackmann of the facial nerve recovery patients at the restoration stage:Before the treatment:There were no apparent differences between two groups P=0:498)0.05;After two weeks:P=0.030(0.05,results showed there were apparent differences; After four weeks:P=0.001<0.01,apparent difference were observed between the two groups(T-test).Pearsonχ2=5.027,P=0.025<0.05(χ2-test)results showed significant differences.Conclusion1.Among the patients with peripheral facial paralysis at acute stage, there were no apparent differeces between the Facial three-Needle Acupuncture group and the conventional acupuncture group.2.Among the patients with peripheral facial paralysis at restoration stage, there were apparent differences between the Facial three-Needle Acupuncture group and the conventional acupuncture group. The effect of the former group was superior than the conventional acupuncture group.
