Objective To evaluate the change of the left ventricular diastolic function in atrial septal defect (ASD) patients who underwent interventional treatment using the volume-time curves(VTC) of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT-3DE).Methods RT-3DE was performed in thirty ASD patients who were suitable for interventional treatment. VTC, left ventricular end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV) were measured in patients before and after interventional treatment by RT-3DE. Filling rates between any two points (interval 0.05 seconds) were determined in obtained VTC and the maximum filling rate was chosen as peak filling rate(PFR). In addition, the rate of PFR/EDV was calculated. Compared to the results of tissue Doppler imaging, control group, we investigated the feasibility of evaluating the left ventricular diastolic function by PFR (PFR/EDV) and the change of the left ventricular diastolic function in ASD patients. Results To the ASD patients, left ventricular diastolic function decreased compared with normal control group. The early diastolic velocity of mitral annulus(Em) was increased, The late diastolic velocity of mitral annulus (Am) was decreased, Em/Am<1, PFR and PFR/EDV were decreased. After interventional therapy three days, left ventricular diastolic function had improved, and had no significantly difference to the control group. The results of Em/Am and PFR or PFR/EDV was a positive correlation before and after intervention operation(r=0.715, P<0.05; r=0.725, P<0.05).Conclusion It is possible to improve the left ventricle diastole function to the ASD patient doing the involvement treatment by using RT-3DE VTC; RT-3DE VTC maybe is one of latent quantitative evaluation left ventricle diastole function methods, its accuracy and the reliability need be confirmed by further clinical research.
