Objective To observe the relation between the related parameters of testicular artery changes detected by ultrasonography and the semen quality of male infertile patients caused by left varicocele(VC).Methods Power doppler ultrasonography spectrum(PDUS) was utilized to measure the parameters of the peak systolic velocity(PSV) and resistance index(RI) of bilateral testicular capsular artery(CA), and the routine examinations of semina were performed. VC was divided into three grades from grade I to grade III (VCI, VCII and VCIII) according to the manual palpation and ultrasonography. Results Compared with the control group, the left CA-PSV and CA-RI of VC group were significantly higher(P<0.01), and the sperm density was significantly lower(P<0.01). The left CA-PSV and CA-RI showed increasing tendency along the increase of VC severity, but the sperm density became decreasing. The linear correlation analysis showed that the left CA-PSV and CA-RI of VC group were respectively negatively correlated with the sperm density(r = -0.665,P<0.05;r = -0.627,P<0.05).Conclusions The left CA-PSV and CA-RI detected by ultrasonography may be as a reference index for forecasting the semen quality of left VC infertile patients.
