Objective The effects of GSH on interleukin-6(IL-6) and interleukin-8(IL-8) is investigated during cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB).Methods Thirty patients undergoing Cardiac surgery were randomly divided into GSH group and control group(15 in each group). In GSH group, intravenous drip of 100 ml of GSH(30mg/Kg) was given while surgery begin. respectively, while in control group 0.9% NaCl solution was given as a placebo. Blood samples were taken before CPB,30min after CPB and Oh,2h after the end of CPB. The serum levels of IL-6 and IL-8 were measured by radioimmunoassay method in two groups. Results The serum levels of IL-6 and IL-8 in GSH group were significantly lower than that in control group(p<0.05).Conclusion The study demonstrated that GSH could reduce the release of IL-6, IL-8 and inhibit systemic inflammatory response syndrome during CPB.
