Research Background:Being an infant is one of the most important phases in one's life. The quality of infants plays a critical role in determining that of one nation and is closely related with the country's both economic and cultural standards. The period of infant is a period in which the human body reaches its maximum development and in which human body's various functions haven't fully grown and developed. Therefore, at this critical time, rationalizing breast-feeding, improving breast-feeding rate, and preventing the common ailments become crucial measures to maintain the health of the children.Breast-milk is regarded not only as a tangible substance, but more important, as the emotional bond between mother and her baby. It is the starting point and the solid foundation of a brand-new life, because it has a bearing on the growth and development of infants as well as the whole lifetime of infants. As a unique natural means of feeding, Breast-feeding appears since human race became into existence. It is defined as a transitional feeding method between embryos'total dependence on matrix and children's sheer independence after ablactation. Since 1992, our country promtsed four months pure breast-feeding rate above 80%, and breast-feeding rate improved in city later, but it descended in recent years. Our country began to strengthen the publicity of breast-feeding, and baby-friending hospital had been set up according global standards in some areas in our country.According to ZhangYaqin's reports in 2008 showed that baby breast-feeding rate was 67.6% and 74% in city and rural respectively. Studies on baby breast-feeding were more in city and rural at the present time, but were fewer in farming and pastoral areas. IN order to understand breast-feeding and infants' growth of minority in Hulunbuir, so we investigated in this area. We analyzed the possible influencing factors, and provided scientific basis for improving breast-feeding rate and promoting health development of infants.Additive food is connective with breast-feeding. It also plays a crucial as the latter does at the very beginning of one's life (i.e. infant period). Proper additive food is supplementary to breast-feeding in improving the quality of infants' growth and development and in laying a solid foundation for their future life. At present, there are huge differences between different regions of China concerning their awareness of proper additive food and its scientificity and rationality. In regard to this, the research is undertaken to investigate the state of additive food in the region of Hulunbeir. It intends to facilitate in working out preventive measures to improve developmental level of zero-three-year old infants from various minority groups in the area.Objects:The research endeavors to have a general picture about the situation of breast-feeding, the development and additive food as well as affecting factors of infants aged zero-three-year-old from Olunchun and Ewenki minority groups living in two Autonomous Banners.Methodology:The research undertakes randomly sampling method according to the geographic status. Babies registered in two comparatively large health service centers of certain communities in two counties (Ewenki Autonomous Banner and Olunchun Autonomous Banner) in Hulunbeir city are selected as the subjects of this study. In these two areas,463 babysitters (including parents) of infants from zero-three-year-old are studied from such perspectives as breast-feeding, infants' state of development and additive food. Among all these babysitters,83 are from Ewenki minority group,41 from Olunchun minority group,141 from Daur ethnic minority group,92 from Mongol minority group and 106 from Han ethnic group. The study mainly undertakes SPSS17 to analyze various statistics and data.Main Results:1. The investigation of the babies from different ethnics indicates that the average birth weight of the baby boys is 3.58±0.54 and the average birth height is 50.38±3.43; the average birth weight of the baby girls is 3.54±0.85 and the average birth height is 50.00±2.95. The normal height rate is 69.8%, excess weight loss rate is 1.9%, moderate weight loss rate is 12.8%, mild weight loss rate is5.0%, and over-weight rate is 5.8%.2. The average rate of breast-feeding of different ethnics is 69.55%. According to the comparison of breast-feeding rates among three minorities, Mongolian and Han, the highest rate comes to Olunchun which is 78.5%, followed by Daur 73.05%, then Ewenki 67.47%, Mongolian70.65%, and Han 62.26%.3. The time period for food supplement of different ethnic is earlier than that recommended by WHO which is from 4 to 6 months. The Han add more cereal and less animal protein foods, however, the three ethnic minorities add more animal protein foods in an early period of time, but as to vegetables and fruits, they add them less and later. Conclusion and Suggestions:1. Breast-feeding is a major policy benefits the country and the people. It is not only closely related to the growth of infants, but also to the level of a country's economic development. Breast-feeding is a social problem, which affects every family and the quality of our country's productive forces, deserves full support and concern of society.2. Complementary feeding is as important as breast-feeding. Adding the food supplement too late or too early also has a harmful affect on the growth of infants. It is hoped that with the support from local government, the old could be replaced by the new, a scientific and reasonable could be taken to add supplementary foods, and a healthy and safe living environment could be provided for the infants. It is particularly hoped that the local medical department could give a positive and early science missions of pregnancy as well as regular follow-up, strengthen its supervision, rectify and eliminate possible influencing factors timely.
