Clinic Observation Of Compound Trolamine Solution In Prevention And Treatment Of Radiotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis Reaction In Patients With Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Objective :To investigate the effective measures to prevent and treat the radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis reaction among patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) . Methods:58 cases with NPC were randomly divided into the observation group ( n = 30) and the control group ( n = 28) .In the observation group , the patients washed their mouths with 30 % compound Trolamine solution after the radiotherapy and kept the compound Trolamine solution in the mouth for 10-15 minutes two times per day until the radiotherapy completely finished. While in the control group, the patients washed their mouths with nomal saline three times a day until all radiotherapy finished. In the control group , the patients were given conventional treatment if oral mucositis grade were II -â…£. Results:1.The incidences of grade I, III acute radiation mucositis were 46.7% , 3.60% and 16.7%, 42.8% in observation group and in control group,There was a statistic significance compared with the control group ( P < 0. 05). 2. In the observation group, the rate of radioactive dermatitis at 20Gy and 30Gy was 33.3% and 63.4% respectively, which in the control group was 78.5% and 21.5% respectively( P < 0. 05). 3. The median time of occurrence on radiation mucositis in the observation group and in the control group was 18 and 11days respectively. In the treatment group, oral mucositis was delayed. 4. The mean time for radioactive dermatitis of grade III lasting in the observation group and in the control group was 8.2 and 11.4 days respectively. Conclusions:Compound Trolamine solution is effective to prevent and treat the radiotherapy - induced oral mucositis reaction. It is easy to get the materials ,economic and has no side effect s. So it is valuable for clinical application.
