Objective: To explore application of 64-slice computed tomography in measuring distance of jugular bulb and cochlea, and compare the result measured by axial state with that post-three-dimensional reconstruction. moreover, correlation of high jugular bulb and sudden sensorineural hearing loss as a perspective study is included. Methods:Ten inpatients suffered from unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss from September,2009 to march,2010 and three cases with normal hearing were employed for the present study, either with high jugular bulb or not,64-slice high resolution CT at the state of axial and coronal was implemented accompanied by 3-D reconstruction with VRT, minimum distance from cochlea to jugular bulb was determined at axial state and evaluated with image processing system followed by three-dimensional reconstruction respectively.Results:1. Distance of cochlea to jugular bulb measured at the state of axial is greater than that of 3-D reconstruction (P=0.0115).2. The distance in the right ear is shorter than the left side (P<0.001).3. The distance in the ears have high jugular bulb are shorter than those without.4. Distance from high jugular bulb to the base turn of cochlea is not significant difference at the suffering side, compared with the control side (P=0.912). Conclusion:1. It can be clearly show the three-dimensional positional relationship between jugular bulb and cochlea after temple bone scan and three-dimensional reconstruction with 64-slice CT, which provides a new way for studying the relationship of jugular bulb and cochlea.2. Measure the distance between jugular bulb and cochlea after three-dimensional reconstruction, the result is less than the distance at the state of axial. We draw a conclusion that the location of jugular bulb at right ear is higher than that at the left ear after comparing the distance of two sides.3. It is uncertain that correlation of high jugular bulb and sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
