| Objective:To identify the proportion of dementia in an outpatient department of neurology and study the characteristics of cognition,action,psychological behavior and risk factors of dementia.Methods:Cross-sectional data of outpatients was screened from September 22,2009 to December 24,2009 in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, School of Medicine. A total of 242 outpatients were enrolled in this study, and were examined with Memory,CDT,CDR,ADL,NPI,HIS,Hamilton depression scale etc. Demography material,living habits, past history of illness, family history and druy history were also recorded at the same time. The dementia and Alzheimer's disease's diagnostic criteria are DSM-IV and NINCDS-ADRDA. In order to make a better diagnose we also carefully read the images of patients.Statistical analysis:Measurement data was expressed in mean±SD and analyzed with SPSS 16.0 Statistical Software. Independent samples T test was used to compare 2 groups of data; Chi-square test was used to compare enumeration data; ANOVA was used to compare multi-groups of data; Dementia-related factors were performed multiple-factor Logistic regression model analysis.P values<0.05 was defined as statistical significance.Results:The proportion of dementia in an outpatient department of neurology was about 0.4%. The types of dementia includes:Alzheimer's disease (47%),Vascular dementia(25.6%),Mixed dementia (7%),Dementia with Lewy bodies(1.2%),Alchohol related dementia (3.5%),Frontotemporal dementia(2.3%),other dementias (10.5%). Patients with dementia have poor faculty of memory, visuospatial disfunction, destroyed ability of daily living,and have concomitant symptoms of neuropsychology.The patients with dementia more often had old age, head trauma,stroke and family history.Conclusions:The proportion of dementia in an outpatient department of neurology was 0.4%.The main types of dementia are Alzheimer's disease and Vascular dementia. The patients of dementia have poorer faculty of memory, visual space, daily living, and have concomitant manifestations of neuropsychiatric and depression.Risk factors for dementia are age,head trauma,stroke and family history. |
