The Character Of Retinitis Pigmentosa In Optical Coherence Tomography

ObjectiveTo observe the character of macular and the thickness of macular in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) by optical coherence tomography (OCT).Methods6 patients(12 eyes) were examined by fundus photography and OCT, then observed the character of images in OCT compared that in fundus photography, and measured the thickness of macular by OCT.ResultsThe mean thickness of macular was 149.25±45.03um.The images in fundus photography didn't show the abnormal changes in macular.The macular images in OCT with patients of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) had 5 kinds of expressions:1.the edema of macular,2 patients,3 eyes (25%), the thickness of macular was respectively 207um,220um,201 um 2.the thinning of retinal pigment epithelium layer (RPE) and choroidal blood capillary vessel layer,2 patients,3 eyes (25%), the thickness of macular was respectively 85um,134um,107um; 3. the atrophy of retinal pigment epithelium layer (RPE),1 patient,2 eyes (16.7%), the thickness of macular was respectively 95um 103um; 4.normal thickness of macular,1 patient,2 eyes (16.7%), the thickness of macular was respectively 175um,164um; 5.the different distribution in thickness of retinal pigment epithelium layer (RPE),1 patient,2 eyes (16.7%), the thickness of macular was respectively 150um.160um.ConlusionOCT can early find the macular pathological changes in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), and provides us the chance of early diagnosis and treatment the disease as a useful tool.
