AimTo investigate the presence of human papillomavirus(HPVs) in pancreatic carcinoma and to explore the correlation of the viral infection and the disease.MethodsThirty-nine patients with paraffin-embedded from pancreatic carcinoma were studied. Tissues were initially analyzed through MY/GP nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the HPV L1 gene. Direct DNA sequencing was conducted to confirm positive PCR results. Positive control application has confirmed the existence of HPV infection in cervical swab clinical specimens.ResultsHPV DNA was not detected in pancreatic specimens of 39 patients with cancer.ConclusionNo correlation between the presence of the virus and pathogenesis of the pancreatic carcinoma was observed.
