ObjectivesTo observe the therapeutic effect of PTU plus triamcinolone in treatment of hyperthyroidism caused by autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD).MethodTotally 60 patients with hyperthyroidism caused by AITD were randomized into 2 groups:PTU treatment group (group A) and PTU combined with triamcinolone treatment group (group B). The two groups were measured by serum free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) and thyroid peroxide antibody (TPOAb) before and 4 months after treatment. Group B was also measured cortisol, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), plasma glucose.ResultsAfter 4 months treatment, the levels of serum FT3, FT4, TSH were improved in both groups, but the levels of TSH of group B were improved more evidently. The levels of TGAb and TPOAb in group A had no significant change. But compared with the group A, the levels of TGAb, TPOAb and the average level of PTU in group B were lower(P<0.05).ConclusionsThe therapy of PTU plus oral triamcinolone can significantly decrease the levels of serum TGAb and TPOAb, and recover thyroid function faster.
