Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of Pokemon and P14ARF proteins with immunohistochemistry, and to evaluate their relationship with clinical characteristics in Squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx. Methods:Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expression of Pokemon and P14ARF proteins in 58 cases with squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx and 69 specimens of normal mucosa as controls. The relationship between those protein expression and clinical parameters were analyzed.Results:1.The positive expression rate of Pokemon protein in squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx was higher than normal mucosa tissues (84.5% VS 18.8%,P<0.01).This suggested that Pokemon has a significant relationship with the development of squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx. In T3+T4 stage of laryngeal cancer, the positive expression rate of Pokemon was higher than in the T1+T2 stage(100% VS 75%,P<0.05).It was indicated that Pokemon may be related with malignancy degree.we also found that Pokemon was upregulated in N1-3 but not in No.2. In squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx, the negative expression of P14ARF protein was lower than in normal mucosa tissues (31.0% VS 68.1%,P<0.01). So was it in T3+T4 stage and T1+T2 stage in laryngeal cancer(13.6% VS 41.7%,P<0.05),it was indicated that there was inverse correlation with P14ARF and development, infestation and metastasis of LSCC.3.The expression rate of Pokemon was negatively related with the expression of P14ARF(r=-0.715,P<0.05).4. We cannot obtain any obvious significance with the protein of Pokemon and P14ARF among gender and age of squamous-celled carcinoma of larynx (P>0.05).Conclusion:Pokemon and P14ARF protein may play an important role in the pathogenesis, invasion and metastasis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, and were expected to become a molecular targeted therapy of new indicators.
