The Investigation Of Practical Applications And Needs Of Sociology Related To Nursing In Clinical Nursing

ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to understand the effect of learning the knowledge of sociology and to understand the demand for knowledge of sociology by investigating the clinical nurses in the three-level general hospital of Taiyuan who had learned the knowledge of Sociology and to provide suggestions for the further sociology education in nursing.MethodsComparison, questionnaire survey and other qualitative and quantitative combining method were used in the study. A questionnaire survey was used to describe the nurses' situation about sociology learning.The comparison was used to analysis the sociology textbooks and it's related textbooks.Results1. These different kinds of sociology textbooks had different emphasis on their goals and contents. The textbooks combine sociology knowledge and nursing knowledge were the books which nurses had used most and they were willing to learn most. However they don't like to learn pure textbook of sociology. "The sociology in medicine and nursing" got the highest score and the "Basic knowledge of sociology" got the lowest score in results.2. The study showed nurses thought knowledge of Sociology is useful in their work after they had learning it.Conclusions1. Nurses who had learned the knowledge of Sociology believe that knowledge of Sociology is required in nursing practice and it is necessary to learn it, especially the knowledge of Sociology which is closely linked to their work.2. Based on the results of survey and analysis of relevant data, we initially proposed the important knowledge modules of sociology which suit for clinic nursing.3. According to different learners and learning objectives, we suggest nurse should choose appropriate sociology textbooks or knowledge of sociology.4. Based on the problems still existing in sociology education, we suggest that we::1) Pay attention to the sociology education; 2) Strengthen sociology education in nursing continuing education.3) Reasonable arrangements for study time according to different learners.4) Improve the quality of teachers and develop professional teachers having nursing and sociology double qualification.5) Propose the teaching methods:PDG (problem-discuss-guide)+Case Analysis+ social investigations.6) Choose appropriate sociology textbooks or knowledge of sociology according to different learners and learning purposes.7) Strengthen the link between theory and practice.
