Objective To explore the methods in assessing cerebral elasticity reserves of atherosclerotic rabbit by transcrinial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) and carotid artery ultrasonography .Methods Twenty-four rabbits were randomly divided into three groups : normal control group (group A) , high cholesterol diet group (group B) and atrovastatin group (group C) . Hemodynamic parameters were measured by TCD and carotid artery ultrasonography; we developed Carotid Elasticity Transmission index( CETI): CETI1= EMICA/EMCCA,CETI 2= PIICA/ PICCA,CETI 3= EMBA/ EMCCA,CETI 4= PIBA/ PICCA. Results were compared with histological examination.Results①IMT were significantly increased in group B and group C compared with group A , and which were less severe in group C ( P < 0. 05) .②In group B,CETI 1 and CETI 4 gradually decreased ;for CETI1,compared with group A, At 12 weeks, the difference was significant( P < 0. 05); for CETI4,from 4th week, each time there were significant differences( P < 0. 05)。CETI 2 and CETI 3 trend to increase;for CETI2, each time there were not difference ( P > 0. 05),for CETI3,from 4th week, each time there were significant differences( P < 0. 05);and the group C index of changes in lags behind the B group (P <0. 05).③CETI1 had significant positive correlation with PIICA(P <0.01);CETI2 had negative correlation with PIICA, (P <0.01);though CETI3 were found to be vary with PIBA,significant correlation was not detecte ;The significant negative correlations were found between the CETI4 and PIBA ( P <0.01) ; IMT was positively correlated with PI values(p <0.01).④Compared with group A,CCR of group B and group C decreased ,but the degree of decline in group C is smaller than group B.Conclusion The correlation analysis of CETI and IMT confirmed CETI can been used as the assessment of indicators of intracranial atherosclerosis, and the larger CETI prompted the speed of atherosclerosis in intracranial carotid artery was faster than the contrary, in contrast,the smaller CETI prompted the speed of atherosclerosis in carotid arteries was slower than the contrary.
