Clinical Study Of Intrapleural Injection Of Elemene And IL-2 For Treating Malignant Pleural Effusion

Objective:To observe the therapeutic efficacy, quality of life, reliviation of symptoms and side effects of intrapleural injection of elemene plus IL-2 for treating MPE.Method:Sixty patients with medium or heavy MPE diagnosed by cytological and/or pathological and iconographical methods were chosed and all received the operation of installing pipe in their pleural,and they were randomly divided into three groups:A group:use elemene and IL-2,B group:use cisplatin and IL-2,C group:only use IL-2.Then observe and compare the differences of the three groups according to the four items as the therapeutic efficacy, quality of life, reliviation of symptoms and side effect.Results:1.Appraisal of therapeutic effects:therapeutic effect of A group is much better than both of B group and C group,and there are significant difference between A and B(P <0.05),there are significant difference between A and C(P <0.01).2.Appraisal of quality of life:A group is better than both of B group and C group, and there are significant difference between A and both the two groups (P<0.05).3. Appraisal of reliviation of symptoms:A group is more excellent than B and C, and there are significant difference between A and both the two groups (P<0.05).4.Appraisal of side effects:The incidence rate of those side effects in group B such as nausea and vomiting, decrease of WBC, raising of total bilirubin and usea nitrogen is higer than group A, and there are significant difference between A and B (*P<0.05),but there are no significant difference between A and C (P>0.05).Conclusions:Intrapleural injection of Elemene and IL-2 is a very safe and effective method for treating malignant pleural effusion with its apparent therapeutic efficacy, higher quality of life, better reliviation of symptoms and less side effect.
